A popular coastal cycle route in Somerset may soon see upgrades to enhance walking and cycling.

This route is about 75 miles long. Sustrans manages the route. They are a government travel charity. A key section goes from Burnham-on-Sea to Highbridge. This section connects to Apex Park and the A38 Huntspill Road.
The route divides into two sections. One heads north to Brean along the beach, but high tide blocks it. Another goes south along the seafront wall, passing the tourist info center near the River Brue estuary.
The route goes through the Highbridge Wharf estate before reaching Newtown Road and Tyler Way. It goes around the Market Street roundabout and joins the A38 Huntspill Road. Afterward, it goes off-road near the Brue Farm area and continues on the A38 to Bridgwater.
Somerset Council plans to improve trails for walking and cycling in coastal spots. This aims to boost the economy and health while reducing pollution. The council will upgrade surfaces and lighting, and also work on roads and junctions for better active travel overall.
The government announced extra money for walking and cycling: about £291 million by 2026. Somerset Council will get £2,775,438 in addition to past funds. They need to review the details and conditions to create plans for the new money.
Sustrans gets £30 million to improve cycle routes. This could potentially help improve the Stop Line Way, too.
