Solihull Central Masjid can keep its marquee. Planners gave them permission for another year. They had previously won an appeal for it.

The mosque put up the marquee in 2020. It allowed for distanced prayer during the pandemic. The council then wanted it taken down, deeming it unsuitable for the green belt.

The mosque appealed this decision and won temporary approval. The planning inspectorate cited community need and found special reasons to allow it.

That approval ended this year. The mosque applied again for permission to keep the marquee another twelve months. A permanent extension is planned.

They are talking to the council now, and the mosque will submit a full application in 2025. The permanent extension will replace the marquee.

Neighbors raised five objections during review, citing green belt issues and parking worries. Planners acknowledged some visual impact, but called it limited due to trees.

Inspectors found little proof of parking problems, concluding that the marquee is unlikely to affect road safety. Planners recommended approval with conditions. Mark Andrews, who leads planning, design, and engagement, approved the plan on February 19.
