Council to decide on proposal for children’s home in Olton. Concerns raised by neighbors regarding traffic and safety.

AppleKids Care Group wants to use a house as a home. Shahid Khan is the applicant. They applied last October after an earlier try failed.
The plan is for two kids to live there. A manager and two carers will provide support. They would work different shifts overnight.
The house has three bedrooms and a garden. The application included building plans. It shows a lounge, office, and staff area. Upstairs would hold bedrooms and a therapy room.
Neighbors voiced worries during a meeting in November. Ten people objected to the new home. They cited increased traffic and parking as concerns. The loss of a normal home bothered them. People also mentioned safety and potential noise. Expansion concerns for future homes were also raised.
Planning staff suggested the council approve it. They think conditions can manage any issues successfully.
The report says it won’t unduly affect neighbors. Two children and four staff shouldn’t cause problems. The driveway has space for three cars and there is room for bins and access.
The transportation authority has no objections. Planners believe the home fits the area. It won’t harm traffic or residents.
The proposal benefits local development rules. The application’s positive points outweigh any negatives.
You can find the application online. Search for PL/2024/02042/PPFL on Solihull’s website.
