Gareth Beaumont claims he didn’t know he was banned from Sainsbury’s after multiple thefts. He was sentenced to 18 months.

Last year, Beaumont got a criminal behaviour order. It stopped him from entering certain stores, including Co-Op, Boots, and Sainsbury’s. Police say he stole from a Leeds Sainsbury’s six times in December and January. Beaumont thought he could enter if not told otherwise.
The judge disagreed with Beaumont’s explanation in court. The prosecutor mentioned Beaumont’s long criminal history, which included 47 convictions with 110 offenses. Many were for theft, burglary, and violating court orders. His last conviction earned him six months.
The court learned Beaumont violated the order often, stealing from the mentioned Sainsbury’s store six times between December 21 and January 6. He took laundry detergent, candy, and meat. One theft on December 28 involved £120 worth of detergent.
Police arrested Beaumont on January 7. He remained silent during questioning. His lawyer stated Beaumont was homeless at the time and taking drugs. He now has better prison status and wants housing and a drug-free life.
The judge sentenced Beaumont to 18 months in jail. This sentence covered burglary and violating the court order. The judge noted Beaumont’s extensive record, stating Beaumont knew he could not enter the stores.
