Sexual violence survivors face long waits for support. Nottinghamshire’s ASA hub helps these survivors by offering therapy and counseling. The Notts SVSS runs the ASA hub.

The ASA hub began in 2020 and works with local groups and survivors. These groups include the police, councils, and the integrated care board. The hub’s yearly budget is £1 million.

A council meeting heard about the wait list, which has over 600 people needing the ASA hub’s services.

Nicola Wade discussed that therapy can currently take over two years. Funding issues cause these delays, and they are trying to solve this problem.

Last September, 656 survivors waited, and about half of them needed therapy. Funding is a problem for this service.

A council member asked if the £1 million budget caused the long waits. The £1 million might not be enough.

Ms. Wade agreed that more money would help, acknowledging that funding is difficult right now. She stated that they plan to improve the service anyway, which might shorten wait times.

The service now prioritizes urgent cases, and eighty percent of outcomes are positive. People on the wait list receive some support through drop-in and group sessions.

While waiting, people get some help. A child abuse inquiry happened earlier and focused on Nottinghamshire councils.

Over 400 survivors reported abuse to the police. They also created a support group that wants better services for survivors and specialist therapies.

Before the hub, services were not good, and the NHS services did not meet survivor needs. Things were scattered and inconsistent.

The hub emerged from these discussions and operates on weekdays from 10 AM to 1 PM. On Saturdays, it opens from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Therapy happens weekdays, 9 AM to 8 PM, and Saturday hours are 10 AM to 1 PM. People can call 0115 941 0440 for help, and a 24-hour helpline operates at 0808 800 0340.
