Odia was going to have a baby. Her labor started early, in the car park outside Lewisham Hospital. She wanted to reach the doors but sadly didn’t make it inside. Security guards helped her instead.

Mohammed Chabat and Ade Oloye acted fast, becoming unexpected helpers. Odia, age 30, arrived with Obi, also 30, on Sunday, January 26, around 9:30 am. “The baby is coming!” she shouted. Ade saw her distress and called Mohammed.

Ade knew she could not reach the birth center. So he helped her deliver the baby outside. Mohammed arrived soon after and saw Odia holding baby Ocean, who looked healthy and happy.

Odia is thankful for their help during a vulnerable time. The guards gave blankets to keep them warm and then took them inside for checks. Now a month later, the family is home, and they all are doing well.

Odia said she gave birth in the car park when it was early, so few people were around. Luckily, Ade was on patrol. He noticed their problem fast and did not hesitate to step in.

Ade showed great care and compassion, which she appreciated a lot. She also thanked the NHS staff who rushed to assist after Ade called. Everyone at the hospital helped well.

Ade said this birth story was intense, and he felt proud to help at that moment, playing a role in Ocean’s birth. Security does more than protect people. They offer care when it matters most, which is normal at work, he said.

Mohammed focused on keeping Odia calm, offering support that day. They shared a funny moment together, joking about being midwives now. He wishes Odia and Obi well and hopes they have a lifetime of love.
