Last week, some Scottish areas raised council tax. Six places in Scotland declared changes. Some increases were pretty big. Three councils increased taxes by ten percent. One rose by 8.2 percent. Another went up eight percent. One area saw a 7.5 percent increase.

John Swinney wanted smaller increases, but many areas are raising taxes anyway. The other 26 are deciding soon. One plans a rise over 13 percent.

Most councils are meeting soon to discuss money. Eighteen councils will meet this week. Eight more will meet the week after.

East Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife announced increases last week. Glasgow, the Borders, and North Lanarkshire too. Their changes ranged between 7.5 and 10 percent.

Tuesday is a busy day for votes on taxes. Four councils will confirm new rates: Western Isles and Midlothian, along with Shetland and West Lothian. Wednesday also has four councils voting.

East Renfrewshire, Moray, North Ayrshire, and South Lanarkshire will vote on Wednesday. Thursday has the most announcements. Almost a third of councils have meetings that day.

Many areas vote on their budgets that day. Aberdeenshire and Angus are voting, as are Argyll and Bute and Clackmannanshire. Dumfries and Galloway and Dundee also vote with East Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire and Stirling completing the list. The rest decide the week after.

Only eight councils are left to decide after this week. These final meetings happen from March 4-6. Aberdeen, East Dunbartonshire and Falkirk will decide then.

Highland and Inverclyde are also in the group. Orkney and Perth and Kinross will decide. West Dunbartonshire completes this list.
