On January 15, Precious collapsed at home in Shawlands and was rushed to a hospital. Her mom, Nomvula Booi, shared that Precious studied at Strathclyde University and had felt sick three days prior.
The cause of death remains unknown right now, as a post-mortem examination gave no answers. Nomvula feels devastated by this lack of closure, saying it all happened very fast. Precious had a cold, then collapsed and died in the hospital soon after.
Nomvula does not understand this sudden event because Precious was a healthy person, not ill. She only mentioned having a simple cold, and though they bought remedies, it wasn’t enough; they didn’t know how serious it truly was.
The missing answers make this even harder and although Nomvula hoped a post-mortem would bring peace, she now waits for the toxicology report. It’s scary not knowing what caused her daughter’s death because Precious rarely got sick.
Precious worked at Morrisons Crossmyloof part-time and was described by her mom as a perfect child who easily made friends with others. Nomvula said Precious was very kind to everyone and was respectful and avoided arguments.
People loved her positive attitude and her Morrisons coworkers praised her work ethic. They knew she was their star employee, and since her death, Nomvula received many kind messages.
University lecturers said she was a joy to teach, and Nomvula misses Precious very much. “She was my best friend,” she said.
Because of this tragedy, people started a fundraiser for Precious’ funeral, which aims to give her a fitting send-off. The GoFundMe page has already raised £4000 and mentions Precious’s kindness to everyone, stating support for funeral costs is appreciated.
The money will cover funeral expenses and a celebration of her life, and people from her schools will miss Precious greatly. She attended St Saviours Primary and other schools and studied biomedicine with passion.
Her dream job involved healthcare and the family appreciates all the support they received. Every donation will help give Precious a dignified farewell.
