New 20 mph zones are coming to 24 roads in Salford, aiming to boost safety after council approval on February 14th.

The first phase includes Leigh Avenue and Beechfield Road. These are both residential areas getting new limits. The next phase covers May Road and the Westlands area. Osborne Drive and Birch Drive join later phases.
Osborne Drive is in Swinton Park ward. Birch Drive falls in Pendlebury and Clifton ward. Residents asked for these safer road changes. Councilman Mike McCusker spoke about the plan.
Reducing traffic deaths is a main goal. He leads transport for Salford council. Lower speeds can help reduce injuries. A 20 mph limit is better than 30 mph.
This supports their “Vision Zero” plan. They want to end all traffic fatalities. This first set of roads are just the beginning. They want lower speeds for all residential streets. The plan covers the whole Swinton Park ward area.
They also want to promote walking and cycling more. This helps improve health and reduces pollution. It creates a better and inclusive city. These streets will all get the new 20 mph limit. They include Beechfield Road and South Avenue.
First Avenue and Second Avenue are also on the list. Also, The Square and Third Avenue will change. Leigh Avenue and Fourth Avenue are included too. May Road and The Westlands will see changes. Then, Silver Birch Grove joins the list of changes.
Next come Blantyre Road and Bridgewater Road. Torrington Road and Springwood Avenue follow. The council will also address Ranelagh Road and Rothesay Road. The list continues with Osborne Drive and Hawthorn Drive.
Redcar Road and Birch Drive are coming too. Finally, High Bank Road, Goodwood Drive, and Sherwood Drive complete the list.
