Police are still working on a case from Salford. They found Tanyaradzwa Matera’s body in some bushes. He was 43 and people called him Julius.

They discovered his body near a rugby club on December 7, 2023. It’s thought his body had been there about eight weeks. The bushes were behind a house.

A court meeting happened about his death; it was a pre-inquest review. His family joined by video. Police are still looking into it, and three people were arrested.

The full inquest is set for late September. His body was badly decomposed when found, which made it hard to find the cause of death. The pathologist listed it as unknown.

Matera was from Zimbabwe and lived in Eccles, Salford. The Home Office helped him find a place. He was waiting to stay in the UK but couldn’t work while waiting.

He studied engineering in Zimbabwe but came to the UK instead. Police heard he might have been stabbed at a party last year.

A detective spoke about the investigation, mentioning some problems with evidence. There was a wound on his neck, but decomposition made things difficult, and finding a cause of death proved impossible.

The detective completed a report that will now be reviewed, she stated. The three people remain under investigation as the coroner said he would help the family and promised a thorough investigation.

His cousin remembered Julius fondly, saying he was friendly and funny. He loved helping others, was adventurous and curious, and enjoyed discussing current events. He was an active member of his community.
