A rugby club in Rochdale plans another music festival. It will host about 2,000 people this summer, and although Mayfield Rugby Club held the first event in August 2024, some neighbors complained about the noise last time. They want to host another on August 9, 2025, but local residents voiced their disapproval of the plan.

The objections caused a licensing hearing on February 7. Simon Colderley represented Adored Events at the hearing; this firm runs events across Greater Manchester.

Adored Events applied for a special license to sell alcohol and play music. They plan live events from noon to 9:30 p.m. at the club.

Residents Rosalie Shiels and Mrs. Singh, who live on Keswick Street, spoke at the hearing. They said the 2024 event kept them awake very late and worry about crime and trouble if the next festival happens.

Miss Shiels’s house faces the sports field. She stated she had to leave her home because of the noise and asked why she should be forced to leave. She also mentioned paying taxes and added that the cost-of-living crisis makes it worse.

She questioned making sacrifices for the event’s profits and said some people partied at the club until 3 a.m. after the festival in 2024. Mrs. Singh mentioned problems with the club over the years; she said people ran naked on the field, and late-night events also disturbed them.

Mr. Colderley responded that last year’s event was safe with no incidents. He stated some complaints related to other club events, not his, and told the committee his company runs the festival, but they have no involvement with other club events.

He explained they run similar events safely in the North West, and he assured they will have ample security. Mr. Colderley offered to meet with worried neighbors to address their issues with the sports club.

The licensing committee, led by Councillor Phil Burke, approved the license. They set a 9:30 p.m. end time, which should reduce disturbance to people living nearby.
