Robert Scott Clive disappeared in October 2002. He had moved from Scotland to North Shields earlier that year. His parents have waited over 20 years for answers, and the police are investigating his disappearance again.

The police searched a house last week on Coronation Street in North Shields. Scott may have visited it the night he disappeared. Three people got arrested on suspicion of murder. Scott’s family in Scotland is watching the news.

Scott’s stepfather spoke about the difficult wait. Police update the family daily, his father said. They have had arrests before, but nothing happened. They are trying to stay open-minded about this new lead.

Scott was from Stranraer, Scotland and worked as a labourer. He lived in Prudhoe Terrace. His family reported him missing after a few days. Police first treated it as a missing person case, but later, it became a murder investigation, even though they never found a body.

In 2008, the police reviewed the case and divers searched the Tyne River in April of that year. A witness saw a man like Scott near the river in October 2002, early in the morning. The police found no body and told the family that Scott likely entered the river which the family never accepted. The family never accepted a death certificate, and the mystery remains unsolved for his loved ones.

The search of the house began last week, with police setting up a tent outside. Forensics officers worked inside it. The current resident moved out temporarily, and did not live there in 2002.

Police arrested two men and a woman last Saturday, suspected of murder. The men are in their 40s and 50s, with the woman in her 40s. All three have been released on bail. One man was previously arrested last year.

Scott’s dad is glad to see the police working hard, adding that it is comforting. He said the unknown outcome is difficult. Police are asking for more information about the case.

Detective Inspector Mark Atherton is leading the investigation. He said they received new information, which led to the three arrests. He thinks people know key details. He asked anyone with information to come forward, especially if they lived on Coronation Street then.

Anyone with information should contact the police using the online form, social media, or by calling 101. The reference number is NP-20240703-0398.
