The council planned changes before this work. A new zebra crossing is planned by Lidl. Dimensions will fix the old crossing nearby. Double-yellow lines will be painted as well. They go by Federation Road and Marshall Street.
They will change side streets. The goal is better sight for drivers. Chatterley Street is part of this idea. The street is shut right now. They are widening sidewalks, too. It helps people see traffic safely. They hope drivers see better at Chatterley.
Last year, two cars crashed at that spot. A police car hit Scotia Stores store. It happened in March of last year. The crash area is along Scotia Road.
The road closed for many hours after. The officer had hurt his face and wrist. No one said what caused the crash. Scotia Road folks said crashes often happen. One house got hit three separate times!
They spoke up before the fixing started. People say the road is for racing at night. Drivers need more time if they go there. The road work is causing delays now. Chatterley Street is partly closed for work.
A council member spoke about safety. Finlay Gordon-McCusker is his name. He said travel should be safer for everyone. He wants safer, easier travel in Stoke. It applies to all ways to travel.
