Speeding happened a lot in Somerset last year. People got caught by speed cameras. BristolLive got some data using public records. The data showed where many drivers got tickets. Police recorded someone going 137 mph, which was the fastest.

A section of the M4 caught almost 14,000 drivers, issuing the most speeding tickets. One camera on the M4 eastbound, between Junction 20 and 19, caught 13,812 speeders in 2024, making it the camera issuing the most tickets.

The M5 also saw lots of speeding between Junctions 16 and 17 where over 10,000 drivers got caught. Additionally, nearly 3,000 were caught on the A303 near the Ilminster bypass.

Here are some of the top spots where cameras caught speeders: M4 J20-J19 caught 13,812 drivers, while the M32 caught 11,481. M5 J16-J17 caught 6,371, and M5 J17-J16 caught 4,243. The B3122 St John’s Lane saw 4,211.

The M4 J19-J20 caught 3,598 drivers. The A303 Ilminster bypass caught 2,685. M5 J26-J27 caught 2,452 drivers, while Lansdown Lane caught 2,308. Finally, M5 J16-J15 caught 2,007 drivers speeding.

South Gloucestershire had the most speeders, catching 44,131 drivers. Bristol was second, with 28,363, followed by North Somerset with 8,895 drivers caught.
