Residents in Cyncoed are angry about unsightly metal structures erected for rail electrification work.

Metal frames and wires went up by the tracks. Some residents in Cyncoed feel blindsided, claiming they knew about the work, but not the final look.
TfW says they don’t need permission for upgrades. One house price seemingly dropped, and a resident believes the track is the reason.
They like the idea of electricity, but the new view bothers them. They say nobody warned them and call the structures ugly.
TfW will electrify 170 km of tracks, then new electric trains will run on them. They won’t plant trees for screening views, using safety and ecology to guide planting.
Some think cleaner air is worth the view. Others are frustrated and annoyed by the structures. One person would pick diesel trains, thinking it moves the pollution away, not eliminates it.
Electric trains are faster, someone claimed, stating they also cost less to make and accelerate faster than diesel.
Another person shared a contrasting opinion, preferring masts to diesel exhaust, which apparently has bad stuff in it, posing health issues.
One person lives by the track. They say it’s quieter than trains and the air is fresher now.
Someone asked what others expected pylons would look like, noting they knew the rail line was there.
The structures are unsightly and everywhere. Another person noted you can hear the electricity and they stretch all up the valleys.
Another person called it utilitarian and uninspired, thinking it could use a bit of decoration and that a color change would improve things.
