Human remains discovered in North Yorkshire after a long search for Rania Alayed, murdered in 2013.
Police found remains while searching for Rania, a mom of three. Al-Khatib, who was from Gorton, murdered her in June 2013.
Al-Khatib received a life sentence in June 2014 and must serve at least 20 years. They never found Rania’s body until recently.
Greater Manchester Police uncovered buried remains on Tuesday near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, along the A19. They were searching the area since Monday, acting on new information.
Police think the remains are Rania’s, though they haven’t officially identified them. Her family knows about this development, and officers trained to help are supporting them. The scene remains active while specialists work.
Rania’s son, Yazan, spoke about it, saying the discovery felt unreal. He wants to give his mother a final resting place, and laying flowers for her means everything.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson commented that he believes they found Rania’s body. He wants to give closure to her family, who suffered much pain for years.
Police kept Rania’s family informed and want to provide them with updates. Her murder was truly awful, and not knowing where she was caused more pain. He hopes to reunite her with her family, so they can finally give her a proper burial.
