Martin Peel runs The Bulls Head pub. It is located in Wootton Wawen. The pub is about 400 years old. He had a local artist paint a bull mural.

The mural was eight feet high, and the artist, Phil Taylor, charged £1,200. The council said it broke planning rules and wanted it removed in four weeks.

Martin refused to remove his Hereford bull, Eddie. He applied to keep the mural, and councillors changed their minds. Now Martin must make the pub look more farm-like.

Martin and his partner, Omm, have run the pub for four years. People liked the mural’s design, and it helped the pub stand out. Locals supported keeping the mural.

A consultant suggested applying for permission, and Martin started a petition for support. The council approved it with conditions. He must take down a vent.

Martin also needs to landscape the pub’s front. The artist will return in April and will maintain the mural. Martin is pleased with the council’s decision.

The mural needs proper upkeep. Martin must also fix up the pub grounds. He will lawn the front and add a wooden fence, which makes the pub look farm-like.

The mural gives the pub visibility. People thought it was a house before. Locals are happy Eddie is staying, and they think Martin improved the pub greatly.
