Hey, guess what happened at St Athan Primary? A big fire broke out this morning. The school is in the Vale of Glamorgan. Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Wednesday.

The fire caused a lot of damage and hundreds of kids were quickly evacuated. Thick smoke was visible coming from the school. The school will stay closed all week, and firefighters are still working there.

The fire is now contained to the ICT suite area. Council leader Rob Thomas praised the responders for their quick actions, stating that because of them, nobody got hurt and it could have been much worse. Five fire crews came, plus experts.

The school will work with authorities to determine the extent of the damage. The council will assist parents this week and share plans for students’ learning moving forward.

Thomas confirmed everyone was safe after the fire, emphasizing that staff followed emergency rules. He also noted the fire service arrived quickly and thanked them for their rapid response.

The fire service received the call around 11:48 am and dispatched five fire engines, along with water trucks and officers. The fire remained contained to a small classroom area.

Crews inspected the roof where the fire originated to prevent further spread. They safely evacuated approximately 240 people, including students, teachers, and contractors.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, with the school and council cooperating. The council is implementing their education plans and will release additional information shortly.
