Dokes Pizzeria in Prestwich is closing on March 9th after two years, citing financial challenges.

The pizzeria opened in 2022, taking over Basil + Lily cafe’s old spot. They sold pizzas, pasta, and Sunday roasts. Dokes focused on local ingredients for their toppings, and chicken wings and wagyu meatballs were on the menu too.
Michael explained the reason for closing, stating they couldn’t make enough money. The team needed to run it cost too much, and pre-COVID profit margins are gone, getting tighter each month.
Dokes’ last day is March 9th. Michael wants people to come say goodbye and have some pizza or a roast. He’s excited about future plans for the space and will share details soon.
Customers are sad about Dokes closing, leaving supportive comments online and looking forward to his next project. A few other places opened recently in Prestwich, including Gail’s bakery and Rudy’s pizza.
Rudy’s is across the street from Dokes, serving Neapolitan pizzas and Italian desserts. Local businesses are worried they will be forgotten. Another place, OSMA, shut down in January.
OSMA is a Michelin-rated restaurant that struggled to find staff to work in Prestwich. They are moving to Manchester city center.
