Police are investigating a possible lynx sighting. This happened near Sorbie, Scotland, which is in Dumfries and Galloway. People reported seeing the lynx in woodland.

This follows other lynx sightings in the Highlands. Some think people illegally released them, as part of efforts to bring the animal back to Scotland.

Police received a report February 25th around 10:05 AM, mentioning a possible lynx seen near Newton Stewart. Officers want to learn more about this.

If you see a lynx, don’t go near it. Call Police Scotland at 101 and reference incident 0972 from February 28th. Wildlife cameras are now in the area to record any lynx sightings.

Lynx have not lived wild in Scotland for 1,000 years. Four lynx roamed near Kingussie in January, after being released in the Cairngorms. They later captured these animals.

Tragically, one lynx died soon after capture. The other three now live at Edinburgh Zoo. The First Minister called the release reckless.
