Hibbert stabbed a man in Longsight in May 2024. On May 17th, four men were at an address on Slade Lane, chatting, drinking, and smoking in the kitchen. After a few hours, a verbal dispute started.
During the dispute, Hibbert threatened to stab one of the men. Others tried to calm Hibbert down, but he moved toward the victim and stabbed him with a kitchen knife.
Police received a call about a stabbing on Slade Lane around 6:15 PM. Hibbert ran away from the scene. Officers and paramedics found a man in his twenties with a stab wound to his chest.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but later stabilized and improved. After a month, the police escalated the search for Hibbert due to the accumulating evidence against him. Police, utilizing TVIU, stopped a car based on information suggesting Hibbert was inside.
The police force tracked Hibbert and used surprise to arrest him, which prevented potential further trouble for the community. Hibbert was initially charged with attempted murder but eventually pleaded guilty to a Section 18 assault, a plea that the court accepted.
A detective stated that they worked diligently to get justice for the victim, who is recovering. The detective added that securing the evidence required a team effort, ensuring that Hibbert answered for his actions.
The detective emphasized that any knife crime is unacceptable. They are actively working to take knives off the streets and educate people about the dangers of weapons. He affirmed that those who choose to cause harm will face consequences.
