Little Pip needed immediate vet care. They rushed her to Gables vets. She was very skinny and shaking badly. Pip struggled to breathe. Her tummy was swollen. She also had a high temperature.
Vets admitted her for emergency treatment. They did an x-ray and ultrasound. Pip also received antibiotics. She was really struggling. Staff feared she might not live. After five days, Pip started getting better.
They found she had a lungworm infection. It caused lung damage. She also has BOAS. It’s a breathing problem. Pip needs surgery when she’s strong enough. She also has “cherry eye.” This needs surgery, too.
Staff at Gables feel so sad. Selective breeding causes flat-faced breeds to suffer. These dogs have breathing problems. Hot weather makes it worse. Pip is now getting the best care. She is in a foster home. Staff hope people can help pay for her care. She needs BOAS surgery soon.
Gables estimates Pip’s treatment will cost £4,000. This includes her surgery. It also covers future care and medicine. She needs flea and worm treatment. Pip also needs neutering and vaccinations. Gables receives no government money.
