They will tear down an old homeless center. Eight new homes will go up near Peterborough Cathedral. The old building is called Garden House. It was built in the 1930s. Choir members lived there before.

More recently, the Light Project used it. This charity aids homeless people. They moved back in 2021. Their new site is also on cathedral grounds. Lioncross Peterborough wants to build houses.

They say Garden House is in bad shape. They plan two rows of four homes. Most will have four bedrooms and three stories. End units have three bedrooms.

Eddisons supports the plan for the builder. They wrote about the historic area. They think the homes will fit well there. It connects the cathedral area to the city. It should stay quiet and calm.

The area could hold 25 homes. The plan only proposes eight houses. This respects the historic setting’s value. The Gardens Trust still has some worries. They do see the project’s public benefit.

Historic England has no problem with it. They noted the Garden House adds little value. They want a good reason for the new builds. They must fit the area’s style.

City planners approved the project. This happened on February 7th. Building needs to start within three years.
