Plans to convert unused tennis courts into padel & pickleball courts were rejected by Peterborough council.

He sought a Lawful Development Certificate from the council. The tennis courts are unused and run-down, according to Jordan. He stated that the surface needs fixing, and upgrades are needed to make it playable.
The plan included five padel courts and three smaller pickleball courts. Fencing would also be included. However, the council refused the application in February, stating that it “exceeds limitations” from the 2015 planning order.
The council said that the project therefore needs planning permission. The project lacks permitted development rights, especially concerning hard surfacing. In response to the refusal, Padel Peterborough emphasized the community benefits of the sports.
They believe padel and pickleball improve health. They aim to provide “Fit for Life” sports. Padel Peterborough will decide about submitting a full planning application soon. They thanked Stanground Academy and everyone who showed interest.
