British Transport Police received a call around 4:15 PM, subsequently dispatching officers and paramedics to the scene. They confirmed a fatality resulting from the train collision, and police do not believe the death was suspicious.

Trains were stopped between Newton-Le-Willows and Manchester. In addition to this closure, Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport trains were also canceled. This incident led to significant delays for passengers, although all train lines have now reopened.

Police are preparing a file for the coroner, maintaining that the incident is not suspicious. The lines were closed for approximately 75 minutes, before police reopened everything.
