An Alvaston pensioner thanks Derbyshire Live for helping remove an “awful” rubbish pile outside her home.

The 78-year-old said rubbish had piled up since September. Mattresses and furniture were dumped near the flats, and she felt too embarrassed for visitors, having lived there for decades.
Mattresses blew onto the road in bad weather, causing cars to stop. She called the council for help with removal, but the council said it was private land and they could not do much.
Mrs. Blaney said the tip was cleaner than her road, a statement she made in a recent news article. She was fed up with seeing the mess, as the rubbish never seemed to get cleared.
The news says most rubbish got cleared last Thursday, just two days after the article. Brindley RTM manages the flats nearby, and they removed most of the rubbish quickly.
Jackie Blaney said she was very thankful, stating that without the help, the mess would still be there. Other residents also expressed gratitude, as mattresses were dirty and all over.
She felt so happy when most of it was gone, and she even cried tears of happiness that day. It was very dirty, but now it is mostly clear.
Alan Graves is an Alvaston councillor, and he attended meetings about this issue. He thanked the LDRS for their help, as their email seemed to have fixed things; he urged people to report problems, so action can be taken.
Brindley RTM said this before the clear-up, stating that they would look at the area again. They planned to inform the council and consider removing the rubbish again.
