B6001 closes from Grindleford to Hathersage for a four-week repair to collapsing wall, affecting traffic and school buses.

A route using the B6001, B6521, and A6187 marks the detour. This is part of a bigger, three-year project. They are fixing a collapsing wall.
The wall is really old, like one hundred years. It’s about a hundred meters of wall that needs fixing. The old wall wasn’t built super strong. Modern traffic is too much for it. Road inspections found big cracks in the surface.
The wall’s sinking makes the cracks appear. They will reuse stones from the old wall. The new wall will be about one meter high. New concrete foundations go down about a half meter. They will use mortar this time.
School buses will change their routes. The 100 and 257 buses are affected. These buses serve Lady Manners school. The 257 public bus also changes route. Hulley’s runs that bus, so check their updates.
The council member understands the problem. They spread work over years for everyone. The old wall used old building tricks. The road now sees so much heavy traffic. That much traffic requires a new repair. The road is too small.
It has to fully close during repairs. All users’ safety is their top concern. It also keeps the workers safer too. They will also fix the road surface. Some sick trees will get removed too.
That way fewer future delays happen. Give yourself extra travel time. Follow the posted detour signs. They will reopen faster if work goes well. Dry weather helps them finish quickly. They will work hard to finish early, though. We’ll know more as things progress.
