A quick-thinking passenger averted potential disaster after spotting smoke and flames on a bus in Manchester early Tuesday.

Paul Frost noticed smoke near Salford while commuting to work. He saw flames by a wheel near Crazy Pedro’s on Bridge Street. Paul warned the driver and banged on windows to alert passengers who needed to get off quickly as the bus was on fire.
They needed a fire extinguisher fast. Paul waved at other buses, and someone threw water bottles to help. A bus driver brought an extinguisher, but it didn’t work well.
Paul then asked Sainsbury’s for help and borrowed their extinguisher. Foam covered him as he used it until firefighters arrived to assist.
The wheel arch was ablaze, and smoke poured from the bus. Fire crews came from Salford station and used a hose and thermal camera.
The fire service put out the fire and stayed for about thirty minutes. The incident happened on Bridge Street, and the Bee Network was asked for comment.
