New data shows partners or ex-partners most commonly kill women, while acquaintances account for most male homicides.

Homicide numbers fell since last year. The Home Office says there were 570 victims, the lowest number since 2016. Cambridgeshire police recorded seven homicides.
Female homicide victims decreased by ten percent, while male victim numbers stayed mostly the same. Men made up 73% of homicide victims, and women were 27% of the victims.
Over a third of women were killed by a partner or ex, representing the most common tie if they knew the killer. Parents killed 11% of female victims, and children killed 6% of female victims. Only 4% were killed by strangers.
Only 2% of men were killed by a partner or ex. Friends or acquaintances killed 23% of male victims, while strangers killed 20% of the men.
Police also tracked homicides by area. Peterborough had three homicides, Cambridge had two homicides, and Fenland and South Cambridgeshire had one each.
Most suspects charged were male. Male suspects killed 93% of male victims and 88% of female ones. Victims were often young, between sixteen and twenty-four.
Sixty-four homicide victims were teenagers. Most teen homicides involved knives, which were used in 83% of those cases.
Knives killed half of all male victims and over a third of all female victims.
