Gary Hall said his partner saved them. It happened the night their dog turned violent. Gary Hall was playing a game when his dog attacked him without warning on a Saturday night, February 15.

Gary feels he wouldn’t have lived if not because his partner, Joanne White, protected him and took most of the dog’s attack. Emma Dean said Bruno was “lovely” but suddenly “saw red” and would not stop.

Emma stayed at Gary’s house, located on Sunflower Close, with her three kids, aged nine, seven, and four. The family thinks Bruno grew jealous when Emma’s child tried sitting on her knee. Gary scolded Bruno for growling at the child; then, Bruno attacked Gary.

Gary credits Joanne, age 44, saying she saved his life that night. He said without her, he would be dead. She ensured Emma got her kids out and made sure Gary got upstairs. According to Gary, she rescued everyone.

Gary was on his computer while the children were asleep nearby. Bruno was lying down calmly but was possessive of Emma and didn’t like anyone near her. They think the boy wanted Emma’s knee, and when Gary told Bruno off, he snapped, biting Gary’s hand quickly.

Gary told Joanne that the dog bit him, and she asked him, “What?”. Bruno then latched onto Gary tightly and would not release his grip. Gary tried pushing him with his leg, and Joanne grabbed Bruno to help him, but then, the dog mauled Gary’s leg badly. Joanne jumped on Bruno’s back and held him so Gary could escape. Gary hobbled upstairs, then fainted.

Bruno then targeted Joanne next. Gary was drifting in and out of consciousness while Bruno attacked Joanne. Gary wished he could have done more, as Joanne saved everyone by holding Bruno, who could have hurt anyone badly.

Gary stays at Emma’s now as Joanne is still in the hospital, where doctors treat her injuries from Bruno. Gary said Bruno’s behavior was strange because Joanne and Gary got Bruno online from an ad that suggested Bruno was friendly about eight weeks ago.

The ad said Bruno loved cuddles and described him as “very friendly.” Bruno seemed perfect the first few weeks and loved cuddling with everyone often. Photos show Bruno cuddling the family, and he seemed to adore the young children.

Gary stated Bruno acted very normally and he often took him for walks. Bruno only barked when someone knocked. Gary picked Bruno up initially, and the dog ran straight to Gary, making him think Bruno seemed great. Bruno often slept with them, but only on Gary’s clothes before; it then made him feel close to them.

Gary now thinks Bruno had medical issues and believes this triggered the attack sadly. Just one night before, Bruno cuddled them. Gary did so much for the dog, which is a shame since Bruno was so good and was always treated like a baby.

Gary added Emma helped that night by calling for an ambulance quickly and getting her children to safety too. Gary and Joanne couldn’t reach their phones and couldn’t call the police then. Gary remains very grateful for the help.
