Business owners are upset with Liverpool Council. The council plans new parking rules near Bramley-Moore Dock. This is near the new Everton FC stadium. The rules are similar to those near Goodison Park and Anfield.

The parking zone covers a wide area, including the stadium and nearby streets. Over 4,000 residents and 3,000 businesses received permit invites under a traffic order, sparking anger among many businesses.

A petition asks the council to change the plan, as businesses fear it will hurt their operations. The traffic order, which can last up to eighteen months, will be reviewed later by the council team who will review roads and transport.

Residents get permits for all their cars and visitor permits for free. Businesses pay £50 per car yearly, with a limit of ten cars.

Gillian Locke says the rules could close her business, while Paul Blair, who runs a comedy club nearby, started the petition that quickly got over 800 signatures.

The petition says businesses were not properly consulted and need parking for their 30,000 staff. Rules start February 17, and the petition wants a delay, as only three test events occur before the season.

Businesses feel this is unfair, as many existed there for 50 years. They say restrictions will hurt businesses and jobs, risking late-night workers, and ask for a delay before it starts. The council has a survey running until August.

Councilor Dan Barrington commented on the stadium, saying it will transform the Ten Streets area and benefit Kirkdale. He said they must manage the crowds and traffic.

He mentioned Goodison Park and Anfield’s experience, stating that a new parking zone will help handle crowds weekly. Bramley-Moore Dock is near the city center and already has good transport links.

He wants more active travel, including walking and biking, to help manage traffic and improve air quality. He said they considered feedback and created a plan to accommodate needs.
