A 49-year-old man died at Parc Prison, marking the 18th inmate death in a year. Police do not suspect foul play.

The prison firm G4S runs Parc. They said they informed the family. They are thinking of the man’s loved ones. An investigation will occur, handled by the prisons ombudsman. The coroner will find the death’s cause.
Parc prison had issues recently, including deaths and allegations of drugs and corruption. Some claim the prison conditions are bad. A former officer said there were failings related to three deaths.
Since last February, 17 other inmates died. G4S data indicates their causes: five deaths involved drugs, three were self-inflicted, and eight had natural causes. One death’s cause is unknown.
Last June, the jail got a new director, following some rioting. Recently, four staff got arrested, facing alleged assault and misconduct charges. A probe studies staff messages about using force on inmates.
G4S said they fired that officer due to dishonesty and disagree with his security view at Parc. Since last March, the prison worked with police to enhance security efforts and add resources. This helps safeguard prisoners and mitigates illicit substances getting inside. G4S will not comment on the deaths, awaiting the coroner’s inquests, and finding the officer’s comments concerning.
