Padstow faces a housing crisis as it becomes a popular destination. Rising property prices threaten local residents.

Houses are now expensive in Padstow, where the average home costs almost £700,000. Detached houses cost nearly £1 million. Locals felt very worried about this and wrote letters to second-home owners.
The letters came from Padstow residents. They said visitors were too much, and one letter even told them to go home. It said they were not welcome at this time. Prices are even higher than in London.
An average London house costs £550,745. A local talked about old cottages, which used to cost around £25,000. Now they cost about £500,000, and builders build large houses there now.
These new houses have five or six bedrooms. Affordable housing is scarce for people, and residents worry about the next generation. Young people might have to move away as they seek cheaper places to live.
Holiday homes make up two-thirds of Padstow. The council wants to ban second homes. Kathy Pemberton works for the council and thinks scenery draws people to Padstow. Family ties also attract people.
