A new outdoor event space in Oldham will host live music, festivals, and Illuminate Light Night. Approved this week, it completes library renovations.

Planners approved the new space this week. The garden will be between Ashworth and Community Street. A temporary stage can roll out and sit on the North side when needed.
Oldham Pride will use this new space, and Illuminate Light Night will also happen here often. Festival Oldham can have outdoor arts performances, and the Khushi Festival will showcase East Asian arts. Oldham Live, a music event, will also become regular.
These gardens complete the Old Library’s renovation. The Southgate St library gets updated for reuse in this multi-million project transforming the old building. It will hold a town hall, council offices, a gallery, and space for theater.
The renovation makes the old building accessible, and the garden will become the library’s main entrance. A ramp makes it wheelchair friendly.
The gardens will be open to people daily, with plenty of seating in the new space. They will remove twelve existing trees, and forty-seven new trees will replace them. The council has three years to start construction.
