South Tyneside Council reviews a new cafe plan. It is for 87 Ocean Road, South Shields. The plan changes Royal China takeaway. It becomes ‘The Kensington’ café bistro.

The Kensington will offer a limited menu, including tapas, paninis, salads, and sandwiches. Designs show a new shopfront is planned, featuring big windows. There’s also a serving hatch for hot drinks.

Inside, they will redo the kitchen and change the customer seating area. This aims to improve the look and use of space, with more indoor seating expected. D.E.M Properties Ltd. submitted the plan.

The aim is a better dining place with good service, without building bigger. They want to open 8 AM to 3 PM daily and fit the local café scene. They plan indoor and outdoor dining.

The current setup limits customers on Ocean Road. The change will help the area thrive, as the business wants to profit from cafe culture. Indoor seating will bring in more people, including families and tourists.

More diverse offerings could boost success, and the bistro will help the local economy. New jobs at the cafe will be created, and local suppliers will see more business. More people will visit nearby shops.

This can make the street more lively, and a better shopfront will attract new visitors. It supports Ocean Road as a key area. A modern system will remove kitchen smells.

This keeps the area clean and fresh. The council will decide after public input, and people can comment until February 20, 2025. Find details on the council’s website by searching for application number 250038.
