The council could have saved this extra cash, however, they chose road repairs instead. Councillor Smith wants to fix roads quickly because he says residents want better roads now. He prefers using the money instead of saving it.
The council already planned to spend £22.6 million for roads this coming year too. Planned projects include resurfacing two roads: Lowdham Lane and Plains Road.
The additional money accelerates road work. Projects planned later might happen sooner, and by the end of February, they will share a project list. It names roads getting the extra repairs.
Councillor Foale credits the Labour government. She says they provided over £30 million, balancing the council’s financial books. She notes more money for key services with Labour.
Councillor Clarke believes colleagues secured the funding. He says residents prioritize road conditions a lot, and he knows perfect roads won’t appear instantly. Still, he expects road issues to decrease.
