Police Commissioner welcomes public inquiry into Nottingham attacks and stresses the vital need for accountability.

Sir Keir Starmer said the inquiry starts soon and should finish within two years. It has full legal powers. Valdo Calocane killed three people on June 13, 2023.
Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19-year-old students, died along with Ian Coates, a 65-year-old caretaker. Calocane admitted manslaughter and attempted murder, also trying to kill three others.
A court ordered Calocane to a hospital indefinitely. Families criticized the Nottinghamshire Police, citing an arrest warrant they didn’t act on sooner, issued nine months prior.
The IOPC is already investigating police actions after also looking into Leicestershire Police before. Gary Godden, who became commissioner last May, supports inquiries into the police and wants community trust.
He aims to provide a good service. The police commissioner wants accountability and people held responsible for issues. He cannot comment much due to the probe, but his job is to hold the chief constable accountable.
