Some might recall the movie Death Race 2000. David Carradine starred in this sci-fi film. The plot focused on a race across the country. Drivers earned points by hitting pedestrians. The movie was very violent and controversial.

Currently, Nottingham feels like that film. Electric bikes have replaced the high-powered cars. The walk to Canal Street became dangerous; it feels like dodging enemies in a video game.

People dodge bikes like avoiding punches. Crossing the Green Heart feels risky. These bikes move quickly and silently. They almost hit pedestrians’ feet.

The riders seem very determined. They remind the author of movie racers. Their eyes look focused as they approach on bikes. Masks hide their faces well. If you’re not careful, they will hit you, then they will vanish quickly.

The law allows these bikes on roads, cycle paths, and shared paths. Riders should respect pedestrians, says the law. The author questions if riders follow this rule at all.

The author supports cyclists generally. He observes many on sidewalks. He cycles too, but follows the rules, sticking to roads and marked paths.

These motorized bikes must be stopped. Someone might get seriously hurt soon. It could be like the pedestrians in Death Race 2000.
