A 63-year-old Northumberland woman received a 40-month ban after being caught drink-driving twice in two weeks.

Catherine Rowe drove on the A696 in Northumberland. She was over twice the legal alcohol limit. Rowe crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into another car during this incident.
The collision happened September 19th last year. Rowe got hurt and went to the hospital. A blood sample proved she was over the limit. Rowe admitted guilt to driving with excess alcohol and appeared in court in January.
She already received a fine and a 20-month ban. This week, Rowe returned to court again and faced another charge of drunk driving. It happened before her first offense, 13 days earlier.
Rowe was stopped September 6th on Ponteland Road, close to Newcastle Airport. She was in her Toyota Aygo and police arrested her. Her blood alcohol reading was 185mg per 100ml, exceeding the legal limit of 80.
Rowe turned to alcohol to cope, says her lawyer, as she struggled with the death of her parents. She has now taken steps to address her problem with alcohol.
Magistrates learned that Rowe felt remorseful. The court fined Rowe £120 and banned her from driving for 40 months.
