The Schooner in Amble reopens after a £420,000 renovation, creating 16 jobs and offering family-friendly gastropub fare.

Work starts next week. They will turn it into a gastro pub that welcomes families and dogs. The pub should open before Easter, thanks to investment from Star Pubs and Robbie Morgan, creating 16 new jobs.
The opening is planned for April 12. Robbie will upgrade the bedrooms later. The Schooner will get a modern look inside, but it will still feel like a country pub. The inside layout is changing with a bar for locals, plus a main bar and dining area planned.
Outside, there will be new signs, lights, and plants. Seating for 48 people will be added to the front terrace. The beer garden will get new seating, and festoon lights will hang under a gazebo.
Robbie, who also runs The Half Moon, wants to use Amble’s location to his advantage. He plans to offer classic pub food, with seafood being a big part of the menu. Lunch and dinner menus are planned, and they will also serve Sunday roast, with kids and dogs getting their own menus.
Robbie has other ideas too, including starting a mid-week quiz. Later, he wants to introduce live music, featuring acoustic singers and duos.
Robbie said he knows Amble well. The Schooner sits near the marina, and there are nice walks nearby. He thinks it needs a good food pub, and great food will attract people. He also wants the biggest garden, perfect for eating outside. He wants a pub the town likes and can’t wait to open the doors.
Tammy Molson and Andy Moore spoke, saying Robbie is doing great work and has improved The Half Moon. They think he will transform The Schooner. They are happy to reopen The Schooner, as it adds to Amble’s attractions and wish Robbie and his team well, planning to visit the pub soon.
