A previous report gave the service positive feedback. Inspectors rated its values and culture as “good,” and said fairness and diversity were “adequate”. This new review comes shortly after that good report. The council wants to understand the current issues.
The council stated the review is necessary. They want to listen to all the fire service’s employees. The assessment just started and will engage with staff.
The fire service improved quickly in recent years and change affected the people working there.
The council’s lawyer sent an email to fire service staff. The email said staff recently raised concerns about the fire service’s culture. Taking these worries seriously is very important. The assessment should improve the work experience.
A report said the fire service promoted good values. Workers stated values changed positively for the service. In a survey, 94% felt respected by colleagues. The service has a positive culture where staff feel able to challenge bad behavior.
Past inspections in 2018/19 and 2021/22 needed improvement and focused on how the fire service cared for its people. The recent inspection noted progress. They introduced easy access to senior leaders called an “open door policy.”
