Barry and Wrexham will receive a share of a £100m fund to boost local economies and improve public services in Wales.

This plan aims to boost struggling areas. Residents will form local boards, comprised of people who live and work there. These boards will create blueprints for their areas and decide how to spend the money.
The Welsh areas receiving funds are now known: Barry, Wrexham, and Rhyl are on the list. Cwmbrân and Merthyr Tydfil will also benefit, and the money will start flowing in April 2025. Projects can then begin in 2026.
These areas were selected based on need, considering factors like poverty and health. Boards can fund street repairs or start community grocery stores. Even neighborhood watches are eligible for funding.
The UK will collaborate with the Welsh government to align with Welsh plans for growth. The goal is to improve local economies together, supporting the Welsh government’s efforts to grow the economy. Creating jobs is an important step, with the end goal of putting more money in people’s pockets.
