A study proposes reopening the Gwynedd rail line connecting Bangor and Afon Wen, closed in the 1960s. The large project will cost billions!

The study was done by Transport for Wales. AtkinsRéalis wrote the North West Wales report. The report shows the best path and lists problems any new line would face.
The line must cross the A55 and go through Caernarfon. Buildings and roads now use the old line. The train-tram project will cost billions.
The study reviewed the track and big changes needed. The line must cross 79 roads; this is nearly two roads per kilometer. This includes public and private access roads.
Possible stations include Parc Menai, Y Felinheli, Caernarfon, and Dinas. Groeslon, Penygroes, Bryncir, and Chwilog are others. The Caernarfon route might need demolishing a gas station.
The study suggests investing billions. Transport leaders will now review it. Another study looks at Aberystwyth to Carmarthen. The goal is linking north and south Wales.
