North Tyneside Council plans a new Local Plan, setting a timetable for consultations and development policies through to 2028.

Developing this local plan will take years. The council must hold public consultations. North Tyneside Council shared the plan’s timeline. From February to July 2025, they will create the plan’s vision. They will review sites and development options.
They will seek public feedback in July to September 2025. Between May and October 2025, they will prepare a draft plan. Next, they will hold another public session, November to January 2026. The draft plan will be revised, January to June 2026.
A third public session will happen July to September 2026. Feedback and evidence will be gathered until November 2026. The draft plan goes to the Secretary of State in December 2026. An independent inspector will examine it starting January 2027. This could include hearings and public input until November 2027. The council expects to adopt the plan in January 2028.
Deputy Mayor Carl Johnson spoke about the plan. He said it helps protect green spaces. It also addresses affordable housing needs. The plan aims to boost economic growth. North Tyneside’s last Local Plan was adopted back in 2017.
