North Tyneside Council consults on a campaign targeting alcohol reduction among those over 50, addressing rising misuse concerns.

Apparently, older bodies process alcohol slower. This means their “low risk” drinking level is lower. The council wants feedback, especially on ads. They want to know where people see them.
Reports say alcohol misuse is a big problem locally. A recent survey flagged 6,000 people on medical records. It equates to 3.3% of all adults there. This issue affects men and those aged 50-69 more.
Wallsend Primary Care Network has many such cases. People in poorer areas are five times likelier to misuse alcohol. Council reports also showed high hospital admissions for under 18s.
North Tyneside has the highest rate in England. It is 75.5 per 100,000 people. The national rate is only 26. Last December, a council member called the stats an outlier. He said they are working with schools on this.
You can share your thoughts with the council soon. The deadline for consultation responses is March 9 at night.
