Jo Walker departs North Somerset Council, becoming chief executive of Gloucestershire County Council after six years.

Walker said it was a hard decision but that she enjoyed serving North Somerset and is ready for a new challenge. She will ensure a smooth shift.
The council said Walker secured funding that supported local projects, housing, and infrastructure. She also represented the West of England.
Walker is on several boards and leads in the South West, while also supporting government relations for councils.
Council leader Mike Bell praised Walker, saying she will be missed. Bell lauded her inclusive and transparent leadership style and wished her well in Gloucestershire.
Pete Bungard, Gloucestershire’s chief executive, is retiring in May after serving for twenty years. Walker joins during a major change, as the council may become a unitary authority or split into two parts.
The North Somerset Council needs a new chief executive, and they will start the hiring process soon.
