Council OKs 160 new homes at Smiths Dock in North Shields. Aims to improve housing and community.

These homes are part of a bigger project happening at the Smith’s Dock site. They’ll build one and two-bedroom houses, along with two apartment buildings. The whole project aims for over 800 homes.
They already built, sold, or rented 134 homes. Eighty-five percent of the new homes are affordable, more than they planned. The council liked that a lot.
The council said it helps with housing and also helps North Shields and Fish Quay. One council member thinks it’s a great chance.
The council members all agreed on the plan. Places for People says they have permission to start now and are working on later phases too. More news about these phases is coming later.
