A woman is thinking about moving. Her neighbor’s dog has serious anxiety and howls constantly when alone.

The woman is very stressed by the noise and claims it howls the whole time they are gone, even for short periods. She can’t even go to sleep sometimes. The neighbors’ schedule dictates her life, she says.

She lives in an old house she loves, but selling now means a financial loss as she lacks the funds to finish renovations. Selling means doing so as an unfinished project. The location is ideal, but she can’t cope, and says a dog is forcing her out. Despite loving dogs and owning some, this situation is too much to handle.

She talked to her neighbors, but they claim they can’t fix the problem. They said they have tried different solutions.

Leaving the dog alone causes constant howling that she compared to a “possessed wolf.” According to her, they know about it, but don’t care.

Soundproofing her home is not an option because it is too expensive for her current situation. The wall has fireplaces, making it harder. Moving seems like the only solution left.

She asked others if they regretted moving, but waiting for the dog to calm down is not an option. The dog is young. She thinks she would lose her mind first.

One person suggested contacting environmental health, as they might have policies on barking dogs and could take action. Daycare or a sitter could be another solution.

Another person said to bang on the door daily, stating sympathy is not a good enough response and that rehoming the miserable dog is an option. They suggested reporting them to environmental health and complaining every time it happens, asking why she should be pushed from her home.

Another person agreed with the suggestions above, urging her to complain and shame the owners. The owners can do something and should rehome the dog if needed, they added.

Someone advised the owners to seek professional help, suggesting a dog behaviorist, noting their attempts have clearly failed. The young dog can learn to be alone. It takes time, but it can be done, this person said.

Their behavior is unfair to both the dog and her. They should see a behaviorist because the dog is not coping, and therefore, she cannot relax.
