That old tower block in Newcastle might disappear. It is Percy House’s eight-story part, near St James’ Park. Developers think it needs replacement.

Hanro Group wants to tear it down. They sent plans to Newcastle City Council, hoping to rebuild on the land later. The section facing Percy Street will stay put.

Pegasus Group spoke for the property firm. The building went up mid-20th century and mainly housed commercial offices. Now, only one tenant uses a floor.

The firm thinks a rebuild makes more sense than fixing it up because the building doesn’t meet modern standards. The council will decide its fate.

Percy Tall sits by the Newcastle Labour Club, between the stadium and Eldon Square. Trucks will avoid Strawberry Place on game days, according to the developers.

They promise noise and vibration controls during demolition and will try to minimize truck trips initially. This should reduce noise and vibrations.

Work times are limited for noise control, with work allowed 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday. Saturdays allow work from 8 AM to 1 PM, while Sundays and holidays are work-free, unless the city approves exceptions.
