West End streets in Newcastle will have new parking rules to deter commuter parking, focusing on resident access.

Fifteen streets in Arthur’s Hill will require permits to stop daytime commuter parking, who often work in the city center.
The permit plan covers roads near Stanhope Street. If approved, parking will be restricted for those without permits between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, and again from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM, daily.
Here are the streets affected: Avison Place, Avolon Place, Cookson Close, Douglas Terrace, Edward Place, Frosterley Place, Hamilton Crescent, Liddle Court, Liddle Road, Monday Crescent, Monday Place, Philip Place, Thorpe Close, Vallum Way, and Worley Close.
The council aims to address resident concerns about commuters parking on their streets all day while working in the city center
The new parking scheme is set for specific hours, operating seven days a week. Only permit holders can park then, which will cut down on congestion and help to improve road safety.
The plan will ensure residents can park more easily and discourages long-stay parking by city center commuters who frequently use residential streets for parking.
